POSITION SUMMARY

Ensures that all paint work is carried out in accordance with Company procedures and policies, manufacturer’s technical data, as well as FAA regulatory guidelines.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides instruction and on-the-job training to assigned personnel.
  • Performs paint tasks along with assigned personnel ; ensures the use of appropriate manual references and proper tools in performing paint duties ; monitors quality of work in progress, as well as performance to production schedule.
  • Submits work to Quality Assurance for final inspection and re-certification of airworthiness.
  • Assists in implementing ways to remedy behind-schedule conditions.
  • Assists in the maintenance of records and technical data required by the FAA.
  • Monitors departmental requirements and corresponding stores inventories to avoid shortages; assist in planning work-arounds to alleviate shortage conditions.
  • Ensures that labor and materials used in assigned area of responsibility are charged to the correct job and work order number.
  • Repair assignments may occasionally require heavy lifting. Incumbent should be knowledgeable in operation of man-lift equipment. Operates lifting and moving devices to move equipment or materials to access areas to be painted.
  • Knowledgeable in use, cleaning and maintenance of all currently used painting equipment.
  • Applies or installs logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, and patterns.
  • Mixes, stirs and thins paint or other coatings, using spatula or power mixing equipment.
  • Paints areas inaccessible to spray gun or retouches painted surface, using brush.
  • Paints designs, lettering, or other identifying information on aircraft, using paint brush or paint sprayer.
  • Regulates controls on ventilation and exhaust units to cure and dry paint or other coatings.
  • Selects paint according to company requirements and matches colors of paint following specified color charts.
  • Sets up ladders, and scaffolding according to regulations and aircraft requirement.
  • Removes grease, dirt, paint, and corrosion from aircraft surface, using abrasives, solvents, and brushes.
  • Ensures all Federal and local environmental and OSHA/TOSHA regulations are complied with.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education:

  • High School or GED
  • IT Tools : Internet, Component Control.
  • Airframe license/A&P or Repairman's Certificate required.

Experience:

  • Advanced Technician Role, requiring Advanced Skills to perform all standard tasks within the Technical Area assigned to
  • Generally, at least 5-7 years of recent experience in aeronautical environment in a Painter’s role.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components.
  • Advanced knowledge of paint processes and products (lacquers, enamels, epoxies, urethanes, and acrylics) is necessary.
  • Knowledge of blueprints and diagrams.
  • Understand technical management and quality assurance procedures.
  • Able to train and transfer knowledge.

Repair assignments may occasionally require heavy lifting. Incumbent should be knowledgeable in operation of man-lift equipment. Operates lifting and moving devices to move equipment or materials to access areas to be painted

Working Conditions / Environment/ Special Requirements

  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  • The Lead Technician will be properly certificated in accordance with either FAR 65 Subpart D or Subpart E.
  • As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
  • Individual will be subject to the Respiratory Fit Test.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts if required
  • Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
